The requirements to qualify for SSDI benefits are:

The Worker or Relation: The disabled person must be the worker, or a spouse, widow/er or child of the worker. The worker is known as the "covered worker."

  1. Work Credits: A covered worker must have accumulated the necessary number of "work credits" that end in the year the disability starts.
  2. Fit the Social Security definition of "disabled".
  3. Date Late Insured: In addition, the disability must start before the end of the "date last insured" (DLI).
