The requirements to qualify for SSDI benefits are:
The Worker or Relation: The disabled person must be the worker, or a spouse, widow/er or child of the worker. The worker is known as the "covered worker."
- Work Credits: A covered worker must have accumulated the necessary number of "work credits" that end in the year the disability starts.
- Fit the Social Security definition of "disabled".
- Date Late Insured: In addition, the disability must start before the end of the "date last insured" (DLI).
