It is not unusual to be fearful of seeing a doctor. If you have been experiencing unexpected symptoms, there is the fear of "what if...." Even if the appointment is a standard one, there can be the fear of what the doctor might say - no matter how irrational the fear may be.
Experience indicates that fear of a an upcoming appointment can be substantially reduced by using anxiety and stress reducing techniques. Those techniques are discussed in the documents in "To Learn More."
NOTE: If it becomes difficult to cope, especially if the fear interferes with your daily functioning or sleep, contact your doctor and find out if you can move the appointment sooner. If you explain the situation, perhaps your doctor can work you in before or after normal appointment hours.
And:
- If you haven't already, start keeping track of your symptoms with a tool such as Survivorship A to Z's sy#mce_temp_url#.
- If tests will be ordered at the appointment, try to take the tests ahead of time so you can discuss the results at the meeting rather than during a call from the doctor's office later on.
- Keep track of your questions and concerns. Survivorship A to Z provides a prioritizer to help. With a push of a button, you can prioritize your list so you can be sure to bring up the most important subjects.
