How To Learn Whether A Doctor Has Been Subjected To Disciplinary Action
1/1
It is not easy to check a doctor's disciplinary record because the great majority of states do not publish this information. Since the information is specific to each state, it becomes even more difficult to learn about any disciplinary actions against a doctor who has moved from another state.
Start with your state's Medical Board (sometimes known as Medical Examiners). To locate the licensing agency in your state, see:Federation of State Medical Boards at www.fsmb.org/state-medical-boards/contacts
Additional alternatives include:
- Both www.healthgrades.com
and www.docboard.org
provide free disciplinary information.
- For a disciplinary report about a particular doctor, see the Federation of State Medical Boards: www.docinfo.org
.
- Public Citizen sells regional publications listing doctors disciplined by state and federal governments 877.747.1616 or go to www.citizen.org/hrg
, click on or search for the words: "Questionable Doctors."
