Mind/Body
1/1
Mind/body therapies refer to the mind's ability to influence our immune, hormonal and neurological systems. Mind/body therapies use the power of thought to help the healing process.
An easy way to get a grasp on the mind/body connection is to think of the placebo effect. With the placebo effect, a person taking a pill with no active ingredients in it who thinks there are active ingredients, experiences the same physical effects as if the pill actually did contain active ingredients.
Mind/body therapies include the following:
- Art therapy
- Biofeedback
- Dance/movement therapy
- Guided Imagery
- Hypnosis
- Meditation
- Music therapy
- Prayer (see Spirituality)
- Psychotherapy (see How To Choose A Mental Health Therapist)
- Support groups
- Yoga
