Check the benefits you receive at work to see if you can get the insurance coverages that would be advisable to have such as health insurance, disability insurance, long term care insurance and/or life insurance. One alternative is to cover your entire group. Another is to see if you can get insurance through an association of businesses similar to yours, an association of small businesses, or your local Chamber of Commerce.
Planning: If you haven't before, start to think about how to continue your business if you become unable to continue to work or even if you die. As part of your planning:
- Consider writing a Business Ethical Will to pass on the principles on which you founded or ran the business.
- Think about how to continue the business in the event of a disaster which either affects your own business or your supplier(s) and/or customers
A planning day with your advisors may be helpful to consider business continuation and other subjects to think about triggered by your diagnosis.
