Where Chemotherapy Treatments Are Given And How It Is Determined
Next » « Previous2/3
Chemotherapy treatments may be given in the following locations:
- Hospital
- Doctor's office
- Outpatient clinic
- Home
- Workplace
There are a variety of factors which are considered when determining where a chemotherapy treatment is given:
- Your health insurance, if any.
- The type of drugs to be used
- How the drugs are to be given. For example, a chemotherapy regimen that requires placement of a special intravenous catheter and infusion over 24 hours or longer may need to be done in a hospital.
- How much monitoring of the patient has to be done while the chemo is given and immediately afterward, if any. The specific drugs and their doses, as well as your general state of health, will determine the expected side effects and how closely you need to be monitored during treatment.
- Your lifestyle and personal preferences.
- Convenience.
