Food is important to healing as well as for preventing cancer (as well as other major causes of death and disability such as strokes and heart attacks). Food contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals in varying amounts. The most significant of these for healing are proteins, complex substances that repair body tissue and maintain healthy immune responses.

Nutrition recommendations differ before, during and after cancer treatment. Good nutrition is particularly important during treatment.
