It's helpful to keep an emergency tote bag in a handy place such as the closest to the front door "just in case"  you have to go to the hospital.

Include what you need for at least a few days:

  • Pajamas or dressing gown.
  • Toiletries.
  • Non-perishable food to snack on both in the emergency room and when you first get to your room.
  • Bottled water.
  • A book.
  • Copies of your health insurance information and health history.
  • An inexpensive compact disc or cassette player with headphones.
  • A batch of quarters and a list of people to call with their phone numbers in case you need to use the pay phone.

If applicable, attach a note to the bag as a reminder to take a cellular phone and an inexpensive MP3 player, compact disk or cassette player with headphones.

If you are not able to take the bag with you, it will be available for a friend or family member to bring you.
