What To Do If You Get Stuck In A Down Mode

« Previous

11/11

If you get stuck in a negative emotion for more than two or three days:

  • Talk with your doctor. He or she may prescribe anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medications.

  • Consider seeking professional counseling.

    • Counseling is for anyone who wants to sort out what they are feeling.

    • There are a variety of professional counselors including social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists. A clergy person may also be helpful. (For information about available therapists, See "To Learn More.")

    • Counseling is usually done in person. If that is not possible, you can arrange for therapy on the telephone, or even on line.

    • Your health insurance may pay for counseling. If it doesn't, many therapists work on a sliding scale which means that they charge according to your means.
