The federal government operates a number of food assistance programs for people with a limited income. The programs are operated by state and local agencies using nationwide eligibility rules. The most well known food assistance program is the Food Stamp Program.
The other federal programs which are of particular interest to people with a medical condition are:
- Meals on Wheels programs which deliver food to people who are homebound who meet local eligibility requirements.
- Nutrition Program For The Elderly (NPE). Age (60 and over) is the only factor used to determine if you are eligible.
There may also be local assistance programs available. If you know of other programs, please share the information through our Government Benefits message board.
