A good doctor and a good relationship with that doctor can be critical to your health care.
Whether choosing a doctor as a primary care doctor, a specialist or a doctor for a second opinion, it is preferable to choose with care. The decision is critical to your health. What was good for a friend of yours, may not be the best for you. Even a doctor's referral may be because of a relationship between the two doctors, rather than an objective recommendation that is best for you.
A good relationship depends on your approach to the doctor as well as his or hers to you. It also involves preparing for each visit, and maximizing your time together.
If bumps or problems arise in the relationship, try to work them out. If you can't, change doctors.
Keep in mind that if needed, there are doctors who make house calls.
