While you are on FMLA leave you are responsible to pay your share of premiums and to follow the employer's requirements about keeping your employer informed. Your employer can check up on you while you're on leave, but only in a restricted manner.

If you asked for less than 12 weeks off, and need more time, you're entitled to take the remainder of the 12 weeks after informing your employer.
