Under the Family and Medical Leave Act, a Healthcare Provider is any of the following:
- A doctor of medicine or osteopathy authorized to practice medicine in the state.
- Podiatrists
- Dentists
- Clinical psychologists
- Optometrists
- Chiropractors (limited to the treatment of manual manipulation of the spine to correct sublaxation that x-ray shows exists)
- Nurse practitioners
- Nurse-midwives
- Physician assistant
- Christian Science practitioners
- Healthcare providers from whom employer's benefits plan accepts certification to pay benefits.
- Foreign healthcare providers who practice in another country who are authorized to practice there and are practicing within the scope of his or her license.
